10/1/2013: Scratch that, 3 of the 8 died within a year. Another one bit the dust.2 of the 8 that I purchased died within a year. At an approximate usage pattern of 3 hours (usually less) per day. This is about 1100 hours of life, which is barely 10% of the expected lifespan.
I went to Home depot to purchase a set of replacements for these. They only had the Phillips 26w PL-T for 9.95. This is more than the 6.99 I paid for the Sylvania's BUT...the Philips has a brighter initial lumen and operating lumen. I now have a strange kitchen setup where 2 bulbs look exceptionally more bright and clear than the other 4. I can't vouch for its overall lifespan but if it lasts just a few months longer than 1 year, I'd still continue buying it over the Sylvanias.
Now every time I enter the kitchen, part of me just wishes the other 4 Sylvanias would die so I can junk them for the Philips. Perhaps I should rearrange them so the brighter Philips bulbs are symmetrical to the ceiling.
